Kephart and Leather for Christmas

I have been wanting to upgrade my girlfriends Mora knife for some time now and figured this Christmas would be a good opportunity. The knife is a classic Ecko Forge that has been re-purposed into a Kephart style woods knife. The handles are dyed bone, which is kind of a mix between blue and purple. Luckily I had just acquired some Buffalo bend leather and have been dying to make something unique with it. After much deliberation, I came up with this two tone design and incorporated my Black Forest logo. I think it turned out pretty good!

Black Forest Field Bag #3

This is the evolution of  my Black Forest Field Bag Design. It has come a long way since the first iteration several months ago. This one has a larger side pocket that can hold a 32 oz. Nalgene bottle. It also has a hand sewn leather Black Forest logo, finished in Mahogany.  The other big change is the custom strap setup. I used heavy duty 10K Polyester webbing(10,000 lb break strength) and you can adjust the strap length via an Omega USA carabiner. Then I added some elastic webbing on the back for carrying an axe/hatchet.

Leather Compass Pouch

Here is the finished product for the Commenga Compass pouch I've been making. I used a fossil to tool the leather and I'm rather pleased with how it came out. It was my first time attempting to do a tooled pattern, so I was a little nervous! I decided not to burnish the edges, cause I was liking the raw vintage look. I did sew the straps on the back slightly off centered, but it's only cosmetic, still functions as intended. I also added a brass d-ring so it can be worn around the neck as well.

WIP: Leather Pouch for a Comenga Military Compass

I am in the process of designing a leather pouch for my compass. I found a plastic case that was around the same dimensions as the compass and used it for the forming process. Here are some pics of the process so far.

I took a fossil and used it to add tool marks to the leather. This might turn out good or look horrible, still not sure yet!

Black Forest Patch Panels

Black Forest Patch Panels

I was in need of a solution to display some of my morale patch collection and this is what I came up with. I used 1000D Khaki Green Cordura and heavy duty 4" Velcro strips. Then I added brass eyelets to the corners for hanging it up. These are available for sale for $25 Shipped.

Pacific Northwest Bushcraft Patch

The latest in my line of custom bushcraft patches, Pacific Northwest. These took a while to get produced, but they look great. This batch of patches depicts a mountain scene, with a forest and lake at the bottom. I chose a special font for the PNW and decided on yellow lettering to emulate the sun. The backing and border are in forest green. New England and Southwest are next for production.
